Sea spiders

Sea spiders (Pantopoda) are rather strange creatures, their evolution moved to the body reduction. It is correct to say that sea spiders consist only of legs! Their digestive, reproductive and other systems are mainly located in their legs.

Sea spiders are predators, they feed on sponges and hydroids sucking their prey out with a strong proboscis.

There are several species of pantopods in the White sea. Unfourtunately I took a photo of only one of them.

Nymphon sp. (must be brevirostre). A big sea spider with the leg-spread about 7 cm.
