Bivalves
Portlandia arctica is the most numerous species in the White sea after mussels. Portlandia is a primitive bivalve, its gills are typical ctenidians that can't filtrate and its foot has a flat base like gastropods. Portlandia feeds on sediments juting its mouth lobes out.
A lot of portlandias have commensal hydroids Perigonimus yoldiaearcticae.
Hyatella arctica. This bivalve belongs to Eulamellibranchia. It feeds on plankton filtrating it through its specialized gills.
The Greenland cockle Serripes groenlandica. This beautiful bivalve inhabits the North Atlantic and some places in the Arctic. These bivalves may jump on its foot escaping from predators (sea stars).
Cockles are very tasty!
