This background is absolutely disgusting, I know.

You see, the water in the bay was exactly this colour!

That is because of archaea, special microorganisms. They live in that hypersalinated water.

There were a lot of birds on the beach: gulls, sandpipers, even pelicans! Apparently they all were feeding on artemias (Artemia salina) - small branchiopod crustaceans.
